Foxconn has told employees not to return to work at its Shenzhen facility for February 10th, according to a memo seen by Bloomberg. The facility was closed for an extended Lunary New Year break as part of the effort to slow down the Coronavirus outbreak.
“To safeguard everyone’s health and safety and comply with government virus prevention measures, we urge you not to return to Shenzhen,” Foxconn wrote in a text message sent to employees. “We’ll update you on the situation in the city. The company will protect everyone’s work-related rights and interests in the duration. As for the happy reunion date in Shenzhen, please wait for further notice.”
While Foxconn's main iPhone assembly factory is farther north in Zhengzhou, the facility in Shenzhen is its Chinese headquarters and a small portion of iPhones are assembled at the plant. Employees that do return to work in Zhengzhou from outside the province will reportedly be sequestered for 14 days.
