Apple's next generation 5G iPhone, often referred to as the iPhone 12, may not support 2×2 MIMI uplink, according to a new report from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo via 9to5Mac.
Last year, Kuo predicted that Apple would release new 5.4-inch and 6.7-inch OLED models that featured six power amplifiers each for 5G. That prediction has now been scaled down to just one or two amplifiers for 5G.
As part of the change, Kuo no longer expects the new devices to support 2×2 MIMO uplink which will reduce their theoretical maximum upload speed. Given that 5G networks are just getting built out now, this may not be a limiting factor; however, that could change in a year or two as carrier's improve their 5G infrastructure.
